Otago is a prosperous and vibrant region which relies on its abundant natural and physical resources; including farming, horticulture, viticulture and tourism, for its economic well-being. The Otago Regional Council (ORC) employs more than 170 people and exists to promote the sustainable development and enhancement of Otago’s resources. With significant challenge and change ahead there is a focus on giving effect to the National Policy Statement on Freshwater Management, ensuring the planning framework is fit for purpose, along with an ever-heightening focus on sustainable environmental management.

Reporting to the Chief Executive, this new role arises from a recent transformational change process, aligning Council functions towards a strategic future focus, enabling operational efficiency and service delivery. The General Manager Regulatory will lead the regulatory functions at ORC, working collaboratively together and promoting the ‘Team ORC’ culture, values and behaviours. As a member of the executive leadership team, you will contribute towards the executive direction and strategic leadership of this Council, building positive and sustainable outcomes for the communities and environment of the Otago region.

Candidates of interest will be experienced strategic leaders operating at executive level, have a relevant tertiary qualification and likely come from a regional government background with demonstrated experience leading regulatory activities. Whilst a sound working knowledge of water issues, the Resource Management Act and other relevant Acts is essential, we seek candidates who are up for a challenge and can point to a successful track record of leading change, building culture and developing capability.

Otago Regional Council are proud of the work they do and the environment they are committed to looking after. You’ll be inspired by the fact the work you do will have a direct impact on how the environment of Otago is left for future generations.
